Monkeypox & Covid

Here is what the PA Department of Health says about Monkeypox ... note that there are links to CDC guidelines that I've underlined.

Certain PA Health Department clinics have monkeypox vaccine available for the MSM community but this information is not being widely spread ... it isn't even mentioned on the state website.  If you would like to be vaccinated, just call a local state clinic to find out details.  It is reported that the State College location has vaccine available.

Monkeypox is not a sexually transmitted disease and does not spread easily between people. However, anyone who has extremely close personal contact — mostly skin-to-skin — including direct contact with monkeypox rash, scabs, or body fluid from a person with monkeypox, can get it and should take steps to protect themselves.

Take the following steps to prevent getting monkeypox:

  • Avoid close, skin-to-skin contact with people who have a rash that looks like pimples or blisters.
  • Do not touch the rash or scabs of a person with monkeypox.
  • Do not kiss, hug, cuddle or have sex with someone with monkeypox.
  • Do not handle or touch the unwashed bedding, towels, or clothing of a person with monkeypox.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, especially before eating or touching your face and after you use the bathroom.
  • Do not share eating utensils or cups with a person with monkeypox.
  • If you have symptoms or test positive, isolate yourself until the rash heals to avoid transmitting monkeypox to others

I do not believe that the risks of monkeypox outweight the benefits of people who haven't seen each other for 2-1/2 years from getting together to visit for a weekend.

Covid

We offer no restrictions to attendees because we hope people are smart enough at this point not to go into social situations when they have any cold or respiratory illness symptoms.  We have hand sanitizer available in the mansion as well as masks should anyone wish to wear one, however, we have noted that recent research doesn't offer much hope that masks will prevent the spread of covid.
